About the author
Aurorisk is designed and maintained by Jean-Marie Flaus, professor at Université Grenoble Alpes (G-SCOP laboratory). An engineering graduate of INP Grenoble with a PhD from Lehigh University and Grenoble INP, he worked in the chemical industry and then at CNRS before devoting his teaching and research to risk analysis, dependability and the cybersecurity of industrial systems. From 2017 to 2025 he led the Cybersecurity working group of IMdR.
Selected publications: Risk Analysis: Socio-technical and Industrial Systems ↗ (Wiley, 2013) · Cybersecurity of Industrial Systems ↗ (Wiley, 2019) · « Cybersécurité des installations industrielles » ↗ (Techniques de l’Ingénieur, 2018, in French)
Teaching
Dependability, industrial risks and cybersecurity of industrial systems, at Grenoble INP, Polytech Grenoble (UGA), École des Mines de Saint-Étienne, ENSAM and INSA Rouen, and in the Master MGR ↗.
Courses and trainer accounts
The online courses grew out of the author’s teaching. Access is through an account approved by the teacher.
Teachers and trainers can request a trainer account to run the courses with their own group: choose courses, approve registrations, follow quizzes and graded exercises.

The catalogue
Aurorisk brings together risk management tools and links to public resources.
The tools on this site are independent ports or original work. Trademarks and logos mentioned belong to their owners; external links imply no affiliation or endorsement.
Selection and ordering
The catalogue includes methods and tools that are publicly accessible, maintained and suited to the stated use. Tools are grouped by risk or method; a tool may appear in more than one group when it serves several purposes.
Confirmed free access is listed first, followed by registration-based, paid and unspecified access; names are then sorted alphabetically. This is not a quality rating or a purchase recommendation.
Access, sources and verification
Source identifies the publisher or organisation; licence is marked open source when known; access describes price and conditions. “Not specified” means the catalogue has no confirmed information. Prices can change: check the source site before deployment.
Catalogue links were checked on 2026-09-26. A link check only confirms that a page responds; it does not validate a tool’s quality or every listed feature. EBIOS RM tools listed here cover different scopes; descriptions are based on publisher information and should be checked before choosing. Comparison details are dated separately and point to primary sources.
Editorial transparency
The Aurorisk calculation tools (dispersion and explosions) are developed by this site’s author; their source is identified as Aurorisk and access as free for teaching. They appear in the same categories as other listings. Their inclusion is not an independent evaluation. Other entries link to their publishers or source organisations; listing them does not imply affiliation or endorsement.
Aurorisk teaching tools
The Aurorisk calculation tools (atmospheric dispersion, explosions) are free and intended for education and for learning effect calculation methods.
Their results have been compared with those of the ALOHA software on reference cases, with deviations of a few percent at most on the cases tested. This comparison is not a validation for regulatory or operational use: these tools must not be used for a safety study, for design, or to decide on an evacuation or safety perimeter. For real studies, use a validated reference software applied by a specialist.
Disclaimer
The Aurorisk calculation tools are independent teaching projects. Their results have been compared with ALOHA on reference cases, but they are not validated for operational use and must not be used to decide on a real evacuation or safety perimeter.
